Zimbabwe Warriors midfielder Marshall Munetsi is back in action after successfully nursing an injury which kept him on the sidelines for over a month.
The Stade de Reims workhorse suffered a muscle strain during the Warriors 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Black Stars of Ghana in October.
He would then miss Zimbabwe’s last two rounds of the qualifiers played in November against South Africa away and Ethiopia at home before being sidelined in 6 Reims Ligue 1 matches.
The steady midfielder came off the bench in Stade de Reims 2-1 win over Tino Kadewere’s Lyon at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais on Wednesday.
However, Munetsi’s fellow countryman Kadewere, whose campaign this season has been disturbed by injuries, was an unused substitute in that game.
Stade de Reims who sit just four places above the relegation play-offs zone have now made it two wins out of two taking their points tally to 19 in 16 matches while Lyon are on position 10.
Munetsi’s recovery has thus come as a major boost for the Zimbabwe senior men’s national football team ahead of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) fiesta set for Cameroon in January.
The 25-year-old Bulawayo born star has been instrumental in the Warriors qualification to their 5th AFCON appearance and his presence in the Zimbabwe squad will bring some stability in the team.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe kick start their AFCON campaign with a clash against African bosses Senegal on the 10th of January in a match which starts at 4pm.
