There was a breath of fresh air in the Warriors camp since yesterday (Monday) after the players and officials received their allowances ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals which kick off on Sunday in Cameroon.
With just under six days before Zimbabwe takes to Kouekong Stadium in Bafoussam for a clash against the African football head boy Senegal in their opening match of the prestigious tournament, the move has come at the right time to boost the confidence of the players.
Just as the country’s supreme sports body, the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) had promised to ensure the team lacks nothing and make sure they concentrate on bringing the desired results, indeed the Warriors received their dues on time.
In contrast to the last edition of the AFCON fiesta held in Egypt where Zimbabwe made headlines for the wrong reasons after the players had threatened to abandon the matches until their payments have been met, the Warriors are this time around in high spirits and everything seems to be in good order.
The team, however, held their usual morning training session at 1100 hours Zimbabwean time with every player putting in a over 100% effort to ensure they match their opponents come Monday.
David Moyo and Tino Kadewere trained with the team for the first time while Petros Mhari and Kuda Mahachi sat out the ball work drills as their rehabilitation continues.
Meanwhile, talented Bournemouth left back Jordan Zemura who also plays as a winger is yet to join his teammates in Cameroon as he is in isolation due to a COVID-19 outbreak at his British club.
The 22-year-old’s fate can only be known on Thursday after a round of tests has been conducted which would determine whether he will be able to travel to the 33rd edition of the AFCON fiesta.
