Walter Musona was on target as FC Platinum returned to winning ways at the weekend in that narrow 1-0 victory against ZPC Kariba at their favourite hunting stable Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane.
The goal was Musona’s sixth this season.
The result took the platinum miners’ points tally to 47, as they continue to cement their position at the top and take control of the title race.
Interestingly for FC Platinum, their closest rivals Chicken Inn lost 0-3 at the hands of Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium on that same Saturday.
This meant that the log leaders increased their lead at the top to 6 points from the initial 5 following last week’s stalemate with the Glamour Boys in Harare.
Coming on the back of that scoreless drab draw against DeMbare, FC Platinum fought hard and made sure they returned to winning ways.
Perhaps the stalemate against Dynamos was all that the Zvishavane based outfit needed to remind them that anything can happen in football and any slip up might just spoil their hopes of retaining the domestic championship.
Following ZPC Kariba’s victory, the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League reigning champions are now on 14 wins, 5 draws and just three losses.
And if they continue on this trajectory nothing will stop them from once again being crowned the champions of Zimbabwean football at the end of the current campaign.
It therefore remains a secret whether FC Platinum will be able to hold their own and continue to grind results or they will run out of steam as the league progresses.
